The Taboo called ‘cancer’

Recent events have encouraged me to write this post because of the challenges I've been facing due to cultural taboos. I did think more than twice on how I should write this, and whether I should or not. My intuition tells me I should and here I am writing this for those who have friends or family who is currently having cancer at a young age. I believe I have mentioned in my interviews with publications and newspapers that I felt very ALONE while I was wearing the colostomy bag, and even during recovery. I've searched online countless times for a support group in Malaysia because I wanted to speak to someone MY age who was going through this. However, most...

Quality gel nails at Yu Academie Salon

When it comes to doing my nails, I've never wanted gel nails after ONE bad experience with it which caused my nails to be brittle. However, after meeting Yuki-san from Yu Aacademie salon, my perceptio on gel nails has changed. I am more than happy to do gel nails on both my hands and feet because of the Japanese technology to remove and apply it so it doesn't hurt your nails. Once you walk into their premises, you will feel like you are definitely in  Japanese nail salon because everything is so pretty! We were greeted with pretty cupcakes and mochis flown in from Japan While you are doing your nails there, you can also enjoy the beverages available such as green tea...

Things to do at Pangkor Laut Resort – From a world class spa to a sunset cruise

In my previous post, I talked about the food, accomodation, and service at Pangkor Laut resort, but what about the things to do there such as the world class spa! If you are one for working out, or just enjoying nature, I would definitely suggest waking up a little earlier to go for a guided hike which was really eye-opening especially for a city girl like me Jungle Walk This activity is led by Encik Asri who has so much passion for the wilf life and environment! He was telling us about the bats that inhabit the island and how they only stuck to one tree. The knowledge he knows and how much he can impart to us was amazing! After that, we...

Truly one island, one resort, Pangkor Laut Resort by YTL is definitely a getaway that is an unforgettable experience. If you have been following, I come to Pangkor Laut at least once a year, but this is probably my first time writing a detailed experience of my stay. Everyone constantly asks me, why do I love it so much? Well, my answer is below and they say pictures say a thousand words, and that's how this post will be. The accommodation and resort grounds  When you arrive, you are warmly greeted from the jetty all the way to the entrance where they will brief you about the resort grounds. Honeymoon : Food in Hirafu Village Niseko

Before I forget the places, another must highlight on my trip to Niseko was the food at Hirafu Village. It was delicious to say the least, and I am already salivating recounting the food there. Do note to book all of these in advance especially during peak season :) 1. Izakaya - Bang Bang An izakaya restaurant which is usually recommended at Hirafu! If you like grilled meat, and skewered food, it's a good option especially from the cold ! This is a yummy salad which you can order to start with Look at this cheese on meat skewer, do be adventurous and try a couple of different types of skewers there A picture of us before we left, and it was basically our first meal...

Honeymoon : Things to do at Niseko Hokkaido

I always write a post about my travels after coming back, and what's not too write about my latest one which was my honeymoon? It was perfect to say the least. Many of you are probably wondering why choose to go Niseko which is a small town for your honeymoon? For me, it's because I wanted to go skiing, and I heard that the snow there is perfect for that! Besides it being a small town, with not much to do, just doing these few things can occupy your time. Enjoy the snow and take a walk       For us, that was one of the most important things coming from Malaysia. We thoroughly enjoyed walking around our resort area, or just in the...

Healthy diet for cancer patients and survivors

A healthy diet is something I preach every single day to everyone around me ( I apologize if I nag sometimes), but YOU are what YOU eat! Of course, it got me thinking along the lines of sharing it with the other young cancer survivors and patients as we have a whole life ahead of us, and we have to prevent a relapse from happeming. Plus, learning how to cook our own meals means that we know exactly what we are putting in our mouths. That's exactly what happened, NCSM along with Panasonic Malaysia organized a cooking class with a healthy 3 course meal for our young cancer patients and survivors support group. They could bring their caretakers along to learn as...

Thomas Sabo Spring Summer 2017 Collection

It's a new year which means new beginnings and new jewellery of course! This year, Thomas Sabo brought something fresh, exciting and cultural to the table with strong and vibrant colours. What am I talking about? Their new Africa range where metallic look meets warm, earthy tones. The pendants, earrings, necklaces and rings from the Africa range have a strong graphic flair as a result of their innovative layering technique.     The Africa Silver and Gold collection and that's where you can see the melding of metallic and warm tones Thomas Sabo Sprimg Summer 2017 had their range of Rebel at Heart for males and females which infused cultural elements such as spearheads, feathers, and my favourite dream catcher pendants Rebel at Heart for the...

Challenges faced starting a Youth support group for cancer patients and survivors in Malaysia

Many of you who have been following my social media feed know about my passion to raise cancer awareness and I've been doing it through the National Cancer society of Malaysia. Recently, I've started a youth support group for cancer patients, and survivors from the age of 15 to 35 since the third quarter of 2016. One of the main reasons I wanted to start it was because while I was experiencing cancer, I felt very alone in the journey while wearing a colostomy bag and wanted someone in my age group I could speak to. However, I couldn't find anyone as most of the people wearing a colostomy bag were mostly 60 and above. That was when google became my best...

The journey to getting my PhD

I have been wanting to write this post for the longest time! Like when I say long, I mean it because it has been 6 years since I've gotten my masters. In the United States, it's normal for most people to take a LONG time to get their PhD, some I know take 10 years and I've heard of some taking 15 years or more. The graduate program in the United States is a little different as usually only a handful(less than 10) will get accepted into a program, and they most often get full funding through being a Teaching assistant or research. Thus, graduation depends partly on courses, and tons of research which means your professor has to approve...
