Not like I have been proposed to but many guys go through the nerve wrecking process of planning and thinking whether their partner would say “Yes”, and it somehow involved me over the past couple of months that I thought it would be a great topic to write about! This post can be for any guy for that matter, or even girl, as long as you are nearing that period in your relationship and you want to take it to the next level!

Ben Lim was saying I should write about something that not everyone knows, but the general parts of a proposal may not even be understood by many! Here are some tips to consider before you take the leap and plan for ages!

1. Find out whether she wants a PUBLIC or PRIVATE proposal

Somehow, many guys get this main thing wrong most of the time. Guys usually go all out and go for the public proposal with all his and her friends, but did he ever ask the girl whether she prefers a public or private one? It’s fine to have a public celebration after the proposal, but many girls I know actually want to be proposed to on the down low!

Private

Congratulations to both couples!! May you have an everlasting marriage<3

2. Copying Youtube completely is a NO NO

Come on guys! If you can use youtube, we can too… It’s fine to glint some ideas off youtube, using someone else’s thought up efforts, but copying it completely.. is a NO NO! First, it is someone else’s moment, if you have seen this video, your potential fiance has too… probably! Second, even if you copied it, add in your own style and finesse.. be a little bit creative!

Very sweet proposal with the help of his friends… Brought in balloons, flowers, from the city to Sepang Golden Palm Tree and she was surprised alright! Job well done!

3. Be chivalrous

Please get down on one knee to propose..many guys actually don’t! They start talking and forget to get down on one knee..sometimes, it’s the chivalry that would catch the girl off guard and bring the waterworks in:)

4. Don’t wait too long!

Dude, how long do you want to wait? If you have been together for 8-9 years, or you feel that person is the right one, and if ALL her friends keep asking her whether she’s engaged yet, don’t keep her on her toes.. Many times, when the girl needs to hint, then you know it’s too long already unless SHE’s not ready.. By the time you ask, it would be more of a sigh of relief on her part rather than an enthusiastic YES!

5. Diamond – Big or Small? Yes or no?

You’ve heard the saying? “Diamonds are a girl’s best friend?” Well, to be honest, many girls appreciate a diamond because over the centuries, it has been associated with Love and a marriage proposal, let’s blame De beer’s for that! I don’t deny that we girls will look at how big the diamond is when our friend is proposed too, not sure due to habit or just plain kepochi, but without fail, everyone does.. So, it’s always best to get a diamond, try getting the man-made ones so that there are no blood diamonds involved(strong advocate against it!) even when the girl says she doesn’t want one, but please DON”T blow all your savings on it, because there are still wedding expenses to watch out for!

It’s really not rocket science when it comes to proposing to someone, but it’s as simple as thinking, putting in effort and trying to create the dream proposal your partner has always wanted NOT your dream proposal. Every girl has different preferences to destination proposals, some as simple as cooking for her and proposing…I believe every girl just wants to see the effort put in, and sincerity when a guy proposes..  Do try to make that dream fairytale proposal come true 🙂

Standing by the lover’s bridge in Sepang. If it’s going to be “till death do us part”, might as well start off on the right foot 🙂

Any thoughts on your dream proposal girls? And guys, your thoughts on proposing?

Love,
